Tasty Tuesday – Ambrosia
It’s Tasty Tuesday, where me and my fellow authors will share some sexy, fun recipes for you to try out. My contribution this week is a beverage, and my fellow authors have items from main entrees to desserts. We’re glad you stopped by!
Unlike coffee or tea, Ambrosia combines the effects of both and adds the bliss of chocolate. One cup will open your mind and awaken your senses for whatever you desire, sexy, sweet, or serious.
1 part high quality brewed coffee (or, even better, make it in a French press)
1 part high quality black or green tea (Dragonwell is an excellent choice)
1 part high quality hot cocoa (Valhrona is my personal favorite; Vosges is a close second)
Combine in a tea pot and whisk briskly for thirty seconds. Serve hot with a dash of cream and sugar.
I found this recipe in the Herbal Studies Course by Jeanne Rose, called the Cosmic Caffeinator. I have made it many times and the darker the cocoa, the better the results. The quality of the ingredients make a difference, as in anything. But it’s well worth trying, even if all you have at hand is office coffee, black orange pekoe teabags and hot chocolate. But making it with “the real deal” will show you why I call it Ambrosia.
If you have any interest in herbalism at all, Ms. Rose is the best source of information, bar none. Her sense of humor and wealth of knowledge are vast and she’s written extensively on both herbalism and aromatherapy, as well as other topics. You can find out more about Ms. Rose, her books and classes, at her website.

Coffee and tea? Girl you are speaking my language. This might be my Saturday morning \’get motivated\’ drink.
I\’ve never had a cup of coffee. I know, I know, what kind of Italian am I, that hates coffee. LOL But I can edit your recipe and use hot chocolate.
I can also serve this to the coffee drinkers I know in my family.
See, I\’m the opposite of you – I\’m not that crazy about TEA. (And I drink Kwik Trip coffee – I know, I\’m a Philistine!) Have GOT to try this sometime – chocolate goes with everything!
Okay, I love this–and not just because there are mornings when I can\’t decide if I want coffee or tea. 😉 And Vosges is awesome…do you use their Aztec cocoa mix? Ah, the possibilities there!
I\’ll bet this packs a powerful punch – love it!
Hi, Moira! I\’m so glad this will work for your Saturday morning drink. I love it for exactly that purpose too!
My goodness, Selena, never ever? Hmm. You might not want to start now, then, because your tongue will probably find it strong-tasting. However, give Ambrosia a try even with the coffee because I think the flavor blend would be pleasant for you. Just make sure to add the cream and some sugar or honey to it. It\’s yummy.
Kwik Trip WHAT????
Renee, that is NOT coffee, luv. You and I have got to talk about French press coffee. Srsly. It doesn\’t take long to make and tastes way WAY better than crap. I promise. Check out Trader Joe\’s for inexpensive but excellent quality stuff.
And I agree – chocolate goes with everything!
Do you have a favorite kind of tea?
Hi, PG! I LOVE Vosges Aztec cocoa! I\’ll tell you what I do, actually, that\’s a twist on that. I add Raz al Hanout to my coffee along with dark cocoa and honey. It gives it that pepper kick and a bit of cardamom and curry. Raz al Hanout can be found at the Spice House, which is my favorite spice merchant here in the states.
Hi, Nancy! It does have a nice kick. The caffeine in the coffee, the theophiline in the tea, and the theobromide in the cocoa are all terrific. The caffeine is a stimulant, the theophiline is a bronchodilator (opens the lungs), and theobromide stimulates the pleasure centers of the brain. So, more oxygen, more awake-feeling, and pleasure. My kind of drink!
