Gulliver’s Travels – Not the Book, the Place
In the “it’s a small world” category, Gulliver’s Restaurant ranks as one of the first places I went on a date after I moved to Chicago. So, for that reason alone, it’s got a special place in my heart. While famous for their pizza, I adore their spinach fettuccini with pesto sauce and coconut cranberry smoothie.
Yeah, I know. I have weird food tastes. 🙂
But that’s not what makes the place special. The original owners loved antiques, and the entire place is filled – and covered – and jam packed – with Victoriana and art nouveau objects of all kinds. There are hundreds of light fixtures, bass relief carvings, statuary, mirrors, frames, stained glass, and even one of the largest crocks ever made: “Our feature piece is Royal Doulton crock which is five feet tall and weighs about 500 pounds.” (From their website.) Sadly, their website does not feature a picture gallery, but you can read more about them, here.
